The Role of HEC in Oli Drilling

Thickening and Stabilizing Agent

Provides viscosity in drilling fluids, completion fluids, and cementing fluids, helping stabilize suspended sand particles and prevent their sedimentation.

Filtration Loss Reduction

Effectively prevents water loss into rock formations, protecting the integrity of well cementing and the mechanical properties of cement. 

Carrying and Suspending

In fracturing fluids, HEC can carry proppants (such as sand) and keep them suspended, avoiding fracture blockage.

Friction and Pump Pressure Reduction

Reduces the fluid resistance of mud, lowering pump pressure consumption and improving drilling rate and efficiency.

Easy Degradability

Fluids thickened with HEC can be quickly decomposed into hydrocarbons by acids, enzymes, or oxidants, thereby maximizing oil recovery with low residues.

Wellbore Stability Improvement

HEC exhibits excellent performance in wellbore stabilization, helping inhibit wellbore collapse and sloughing, especially suitable for hard rock formations and shale formations.

Enhanced Oil Recovery

Reduces formation damage and prevents drilling fluids from causing clay swelling and migration, thus protecting the permeability of rock cores and contributing to enhanced oil recovery.
